Step 2 Lead-in
Using pictures to teach new words:
turtle, goldfish, cat, dog, parrots, snakes, mouse, spider, hamster
Step 3 Guessing game
T: How much do you know about them? Guess what it is according to the description.
T: They can only live to be 12-15 years old. They are honest to their master.
S: Dog.
T: They like eating very much. If you don’t stop them, they will keep eating until
they die.
S: Hamster.
T: They always sleep more than 14 hours a day.
S: Cat.
T: They need sunshine and water.
S: Goldfish
T: They look cool. But they are expensive. They like eating some insects.
S: Spider
T: They like to communicate with people and they are a little naughty.
S: Parrot
T: They are cool-blood. Sometimes they are dangerous.
S: Snake.
Step 4 Group work
T: Would you like to keep one of them as a pet? Which of the animals would be good
pets? Which would be bad pets?
T: Write the words in the diagram and compare your choices with your classmates.

T: Make a list of pets you can think of .What’s the most popular pet? What’s the
most unusual pet? Tell the class.

A: Cats are the most popular pets.
B: Parrots are the most unusual pets.
Step5 Listening
1. Listen and number the pets in the order you hear them. Write the numbers on the
lines in the chart.
