State: This slide demonstrates how to set-up the changeover priority wheel and how it operates. The changeover priority wheel is shown on the left, while a customized visual control board is on the right. The cards shown in the center provide a legend. Click the mouse and say: This shows a board currently loaded supporting production. This is what you would see if you walked out onto the production floor. Part number 1 is ready to run indicated by the red card. The numbers above the cards signify one half of the production pull loop. The top half of the board displays what number of pull cards indicates a changeover is necessary and records these quantities above the card positions on the board. The example shows a changeover when 50% of the cards for each part are returned. Click the mouse and say: The wheel is turned until the first part that has a turned over “Run” card on the board is reached, in this case, part number 1. Click the mouse and say: While part 1 is running, pull cards for other part numbers are being returned to the board as the product is consumed. Wait for 3 cards to return to part number 4: Click the mouse and say: In this example when, 3 cards for part number 4 are returned, the cards are turned over to indicate the part is ready to run, signifying we have met our changeover quantity. Click the mouse and say: When part number 1 production is complete, then part number 4 is the next part to run.
