Abs tract: Based on the energy princ iple, the thin-w a ll beam elem ent o f bridge sup erstru cture is estab lished. A c-
cord ing to K elv in contact m ode,l under the con sideration o f nonlinear bearing hysteretic characteristics (W en m od-
el) and the w aves for variou s site condit ions, the long itud inal se ism ic pound ing response of three sp an smi ple beam
br idge o f Jinggangao m otorw ay is stu died. T he ca lculat ion resu lts show that the pounding tmi es and respon se peak
valu es of the bridge superstru cture are increased obviou sly w ith augm ent ing p eak acce leration s. The jo int pounding
affects the seism ic respon ses, and the c learance of expan sion jo int and the span ra tio affects the pound ing response a
