Learning Motivation and Foreign Language Teaching
Introduction
In English teaching of middle school, teachers do their best to impart knowledge to students, and give students a lot of school assignments as exercise to make them proficient. Students do their best to finish lots of school assignments until 12 P.m. every day. But the result that they strive to get cannot make people satisfied. The reason is that teachers give too much school assignment, and students think of these assignments as a task because they do not have a strong learning motivation that can’t make then study on their own initiative. This paper will discuss how to improve students` learning motivation to make them learn foreign language with higher efficiency!
I. The concept of motivation
A.??The definition of motivation
The study of motivation is as old as the study of psychology. Researchers have always sought to know what impels people to take various from simple actions such as eating to complex actions such as learning a foreign language. Many theories of motivation have been developed to explain the causes of people’s behaviors. But no single theory can explain all behavior. In fact, most psychologists believe that inborn motivation and the learning cause people to behave in different ways. To understand these interacting forces, we must first define motivation, motivation is any condition, usually internal, which appears by inference to initiate, activate, or maintain an organism’s goal – directed behavior. Let’s examine the four basic parts of motivation (1) internal condition; (2).inference (3).initiation, activation, or maintenance; and (4).goal-directed behavior.
Motivation reflects an internal condition. The condition may develop from physiological needs and drives or from complex desires, such as the desire to help others, to obtain approval, or to earn a high income.
