It differs from poetry or verse in that it is not restricted in rhythm, measure or rhyme —J,A, Cudden A dictionary of literary terms and literary theory In its broadest sense, the term is applied to all forms of written or spoken expression which do not have a regular rhythmic pattern – C. Principles of Prose Translation Burton Raffel: The style is the man In his book Art of Translating Prose, he argues the syntactic structures of prose represents the style of the author, so the original structures must be render strictly into the target language ---“The style is the man ” Only when the syntactic structures of the original composition is kept or retained, can the style of the original be successfully reproduced or transposed. GaoJian: the tone and the style of prose are translatable The content of the ST should be interrelated with the form, namely, they are closely and inherently connected with each other. Therefore, he concludes that if the meaning of the content is fully rendered into the TL, the style which is consistent with the meaning or the content will be translated.
