IV. negative form not, a, little as adverbial, equivalent to very/ quite, very, very; for attributes and objects, equivalent to much, meaning many. When not a bit is used as adverbial, it is equivalent to not at all, which means not at all. When it is an object, it is equivalent to not much. Eg: He, is, not, a, little (=very) hungry., hes starving. He is not a bit (=not at all) hungry. he is not hungry at all. She ate not a little (=much). She eats a lot. Not in Not a bit can be used separately; not in not a little cannot be separated. Eg: He, felt, not, a, bit, tired. = He, didn, t, feel, tired., a, bit, he felt not tired at all. He, felt, not, a, little, tired., he felt very tired. But you cant say: He, didn, t, fell, a, little, tired. Section 2 a few/ few/ a little/ little I. A, few, and few modify countable nouns, a, little, and little; modify uncountable nouns; a, few, and a little indicate positive meaning; few and little represent negative meaning and can be modified by only.
