ABSTRACT

Withthedevelopmentofscienceandtechnology,theneedfortalentsintechnical

interpretinghasincreased.Technicalinterpreting,withinterpretingasthemedium,

referstothecommunicativeactivitywhichspreadsknowledgeandinformationrelated

toscienceandtechnology,performinganinfluentialrole.Inthissimulatedconsecutive

interpretingpractice,thisreporthaschosentheopencourseWirelessCommunications

asthesourcetext,analyzedindetailthepolysemyphenomenonanditstypesand

processingandputforwardcorrespondinginterpretingstrategies.Thepolysemy

occurredinthisinterpretingpracticecanbeclassifiedintotwotypes,whichareregular

polysemyandirregularpolysemy.Asforthespecificexamplesofregularpolysemy,

theinterpretingstrategiesofadditionandtransformationcanbeused;asforthe

particularinstancesofirregularpolysemy,theinterpretingstrategiesofword-for-word

translationandexplicitationcanbeapplied.Thisreporthasthreeobjectives,whichare:

(1)discussingthephenomenonofpolysemytheauthorhasencounteredduringthis

interpretingpracticeoftechnicaldiscourseandputforwardthecorresponding

interpretingstrategies;(2)providingreferencesforrealinterpretingtaskoftechnology-

relateddiscourse;(3)throwinglightsonfuturestudiesontechnicalinterpretingwith

polysemyphenomenonasthefocus.Thisreportfoundoutthatwhenprocessingthe

phenomenonofpolysemyintechnology-relateddiscourse,theinterpreterneedsto

definetheexactmeaningofthepolysemyaccordingtocontextandemploytheproper

interpretingstrategy,soastoconveythetruesensesofthepolysemyinthetarget

languageandtoensuretheintegralityandveracityoftheinterpretingoutput.
