Lead-in
1-5 1. Group work: Ask Students to look at some pictures and to tell which disaster is the most harmful? Why?
2. If there is an earthquake here, what should you do? Then the teacher gives the conclusion, for instance;
1)You can run out to the street/to the playground.
2)You can hide under the desk.
Help students to understand with the pictures, and improve their ability of teamwork by divided them into different groups.
Step 2
Presentation
6-15 Listen to the text first and then encourage some students to read the text aloud, and then underline the new words. Ask students to explain these new words in Chinese and then the teacher should explain them in English.
According to students’ level,the teacher should explain the new words both in Chinese and English
Step 3
Reading
16-26 Task 1:
Give students 4 minutes to scan the lesson, and answer the multiple- choice questions.
1. Where was Timmy when the earthquake happened?

B. In the classroom

2. What did Timmy have to eat when he was trapped?
