3.WhatarethefactorsthatinfluencetheuseofreferenceexpressionsinEnglishnarrativediscoursebyChineseEnglishlearners?
Methodology:
Thisstudywilluseamixed-methodsapproachtoanalyzethedatacollectedfrom50ChineseEnglishlearners’narrativeessays.Thequantitativedatawillbeanalyzedusingstatisticalsoftware,whilequalitativedatawillbeanalyzedusingdiscourseanalysismethods.Thedatawillbecollectedthroughasurvey,whichwillincludenarrativewritingtasksandquestionsaboutthelearners’languagelearningbackgroundsandstrategies.
ExpectedResults:
Basedontheanalysisofthedata,itisexpectedthatChineseEnglishlearnerswillusemoreexplicitreferenceexpressionsintheirEnglishnarrativediscoursethannativeEnglishspeakers.ThecommonerrorsmadebyChineseEnglishlearnerswillberelatedtooveruseofpronouns,ambiguityinreference,andincorrectchoiceofreferenceexpressions.Languageproficiency,priorlanguagelearningexperience,andculturalbackgroundareexpectedtobethemainfactorsthatinfluencetheuse
