基于文化翻译理论的 汉语新词英译研究 On English Translation of Chinese Neologisms with Cultural Translation Theory ABSTRACT Traditional translation studies treat translation as the transformation of linguistic signs, taking insufficient notice of the interference of cultural factors in the translating process. However, owing to the natural and close relations among language, culture and translation, with the development of related disciplines, translation studies from the perspective of cultural communication have been gaining weight in the academic circles of translation theories in recent years, which resulted in the cultural view on translation. Language is the index of the culture. As the most active elements of the vocabulary in language, the neologisms reveal the ways of thinking or organizing experience that are common in the associated culture. In this sense, the latest Chinese neologisms translation is of great importance and significance in providing an adequate interpretation and description of the latest Chinese culture to the foreign countries. Guided by Cultural Translation Theory, the analysis gives insights into the translation of neologisms in China. With large numbers of example, it discusses that how to deal with the culture factor in neologism translation, so that the translation can get the functional equivalent in the target culture context. Finally, the thesis provides some translation strategies as references for further study. The study consists of five chapters. Chapter one introduces the study question and the significance, and methodology of the study, Chapter two provides definitions of the culture, translation and cultural translation theory, Chapter three presents an analysis of the culture and translation of the neologisms The main task of chapter four is to touches upon the translational problems of Chinese neologisms and the capable strategies. The conclusions and recommendations for further research are givern in Chapter five. KEY WORDS: Cultural
