Abstract The2008Wenchuanearthquake(M 79)occurredattheeasternmarginoftheTibetanPlateau,producing270kmand

80kmlongcoseismicsurfaceruptureswithdifferentkinematicsfeatures,alongtheYingxiuBeichuanandGuanxianAnxianfaults,
respectively.Faultrocksaretheproductsoffaultactivities.Thecharacteristicsoffaultrocksprovideinformationonfaultactivitiesand
theirevolutionhistory.Here,wefocusontheoutcropoftheYingxiuBeichuanfaultinBajiaomiaovillage,Hongkoutownandresults
fromWFSD1drillcores.Basedonfieldsurvey,Xraydiffractionanalysis,microstructureanddrillcoresanalysis,a~240mwide
faultzonewasconfirmedastheYingxiuBeichuanfaultzonefromtheoutcrop,correspondingtothe~105mwidefaultzoneatdepth,
asdeterminedfromtheWFSD1drillcores,whichpresentsthecharacteristicsofamultiplecoresmodel.Faultrocks,includingfault
breccia,faultgougeandcataclasitewereidentifiedinboththeoutcropanddrillcores,whilepseudotachylytewasonlyvisibleatthe
outcrop.ThelocationofthePrincipalSlipZoneoftheWenchuanearthquake,whichdoesnotentirelyfollowtheancientfaultzone,
obliquelycrossingtheYingxiuBeichuanfaultzone,mightindicatethattheWenchuanearthquakefaultandYingxiuBeichuanfaultdo
notbelongtothesamefaultsystem.Basedonfaultrocksstudies,therearefourkindsoffaultmec
