The Inheritance and Development of the American Dream in Barrack Obama’s Speeches Abstract: Once again, Obama’s campaign success aroused American peoples fanatical pursuit of the American dream, which is an obvious feature of American culture. The American dream began in the eighteenth century.However,with the changes of history, it has more and more meanings. Academia has mixed views on it, and different people have different interpretations too.But in general, the American dream contains several fundamental elements just as follows: first,the United States provides everyone the chance of success;second, success depends on one’s own talents and efforts, rather than family background; third,everyone has equal rights and faith of freedom. As the core value of American culture, the American dream has penetrated into all aspects of the social life. Fashion is one of the areas which have been profoundly affected. From Ralph Laurens fashion clothing, we can see the shadow of the American dream; the mass media film, which leading the Fashion Trends, is also greatly affected. Many flimsy’s theme is the achievement of the American Dream, such as The Pursuit of Happiness Sundog Millionaire and some other cartoons, etc. This paper will explore the inheritance and development of the American dream from multiple angles. Key word:American Dream, Barack Obama, Ralph Lauren, Garments ,Film First: Introduction The so-called American Dream (American Dream), has both a broad and narrow sense, the broad sense refers to the United States equality, freedom and democracy; the narrow sense is a kind of belief that in the United States, as long as you work hard, you will be able to have a better life. It also means that people should get prosperity through their own hard work, courage, creativity, and determination, rather than rely on a particular social class or other assistance.
