Business Research Case Study
Week 2: Case Study Research
There are lots of definitions but in this module it is:
The study of a real life situation
A puzzle that you are trying to solve
A detailed account of a company over a period of time
A specific issue that must be relevant to your degree classification
What is a Case Study?
Stage 1: Identifying a problem/issue
Stage 2: Investigating a problem/issue
Stage 3: Trying to solve the problem/issue or making some recommendations to improve it
There are three stages to creating a Case Study
You need to research an organisation via the internet, library, newspapers etc. Think of yourself as a detective!
You should find an interesting problem that the organisation needs to solve
You should write this up as a summary giving enough information to help readers understand your problem/issue
You should then explain the problem in a few short bullet points
Stage 1: Identifying a problem/issue
This should be done by week 6 of the module
Please refer to the module handbook, weeks 1-6, for more information
You will have now completed the first part of the Business Research Case Study
You need to:
1. Collect literature on your problem
2. Collect secondary data on your problem/issue
This is called the analysis phase
Remember: this should be a critical reflection
In undertaking these two tasks you will also complete your reflective journal
Investigating the problem/issue
This should be done by week 10 of the module
Please refer to the module handbook, weeks 7-10, for more information
You will have now completed the second part of the Business Research Case Study
All good detectives solve the problem/issue!
Sometimes though there is not a complete solution!
You MUST answer your problem/issue by making recommendations
You should enlist the help of others in solving your problem……your class and your tutor will support you with this task
