A detailed process map contains information that is beneficial to improving the process (DPU, cycle time, costs, inputs, and outputs). Value added step: an operation which transforms the product in a way that is meaningful to the customer. Output (Y): key process output variable or any item or feature on a product which is deemed to be critical by the “customer”. Input (X): key process input variable or any item which has an impact on Y. Controllable X - knob variable or an input which can be readily changed to
