Garmin G3000?- Revolutionizing the light jet pilot’s experience
M2 PROGRAM UPDATE
The M2 certification program is progressing well with roughly 30 per cent of flight test conditions completed. The Cessna Engineering Flight Test team has flown more than 520 hours and 300 flights on two separate prototype aircraft. At this time certification flight testing is complete for flight into known icing certification. Cessna has also completed the testing for the engine and fuel system changes.
Cessna’s M2 incorporates the Garmin G3000 avionics suite. The G3000 builds on the revolutionary G1000? to further enhance safety and situational awareness for the light jet pilot. We are pleased to share with you an in-depth look at the G3000 avionics suite.
MULTIPLE DISPLAYS
The M2’s G3000 system includes three 14.1 inch (diagonal) WXGA displays, two Primary Flight Displays (PFD) and one Multifunctional Display (MFD), which can be used in a variety of ways.
One new feature of these displays is that the PFDs can be split into two zones (40/60 split). The outboard portion of the screen can then be configured as moving map, with the inboard portion maintaining all of the PFD functionality. This allows each pilot to put the necessary information front and center for the operation at hand.
The MFD always displays the Engine Indication Crew Alerting Systems (EICAS) on the left hand portion of the screen. The remaining two thirds of the screen can be configured as one large moving map section, or as two different zones that are configured and controlled through the separate Garmin Touch Controllers (GTC). The pilot copilot can display a moving map and an approach at the same time for the ultimate in situational awareness.
These portions of the screen are dynamic to meet the need of the crew with the ability to display maps, charts, traffic, weather, or combinations of these. Dual GTCs provide the control for many of the functions of the PFDs and the MFD. These 5.7” h
