王尔德与中国新文学结缘
最早汉译王尔德的是周作人。他将王尔德译为淮尔德。在周氏兄弟1909年编译的《域外小说集》中，开篇即是《安乐王子》(即《快乐王子》)。在鲁迅眼里，
他属于异域“世纪末的果汁”中的一份，张爱玲的行事行文更是大有模仿王尔德之风。

奥斯卡·王尔德，英国著名的剧作家、散文家
和诗人。王尔德毕业于牛津大学，富有一种与生俱来的诗人气质，大学时曾得到圣三一(Trinity
College)诗歌大奖，他的早期作品中有两本童话集：《快乐王子故事集》和《石榴之家》,已载入英国儿童文学史册。
在王尔德的墓碑上，他被誉为“才子和戏剧
家。在他短短的创作生涯中(享年四十六岁),行文演论，无处不是智趣横生。他是唯美主义运动的倡导者，“为艺术而艺术”的美学观点也影响
颇广。
