Abstract Study on the display application of ferroelectric liquid crystals materials has been draw
much attention from all over the world since the working principle of surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid
crystal was described by Clark and Lagerwall. In this paper, the progress in novel ferroelectric liquid crystals
and chiral dopants containing phenylpyrimidine ring in the backbone were summarized. It was focused on
the influence of various chiral centers and end groups on the spontaneous polarization, response time and
transition temperatures.
