Japanese IME Training Basic IME Introduction Following picture shows the typical Japanese IME language bar (Microsoft IME Standard 2002) on English OS. Click Input Mode icon, you can choose one of the following modes: To input Kanji, press the space bar, the kana character you input converts into Kanji, press space bar for the second time, candidate window shows up for your choice. Press Enter to input the Kanji you choose. You can form a number of Kanji characters before pressing Enter. The IME engine will attempt to convert your keystrokes into a determined string based on Japanese grammar rules. From the Conversion Mode icon, you can use four different conversion modes that allow you some control as to where the IME gets its data to convert. Please refer to following table. IMM32 interface only support keyboard devices/events. This meant that there was no extensibility to support new devices or sources of text input. Thus, Microsoft introduced new programming interface unified all user input devices/events. This is “Text Service Framework” or “TSF”. Microsoft calls “Cicero” as code name internally. Office XP was the first product introduced Cicero. Windows XP was the first OS supported Cicero by default. CUAS(Cicero unaware Application Support) Cicero supported “CUAS” from Windows XP SP1 timeframe. Microsoft planed to release Tablet OS based on Windows XP SP1. There were two kinds of Tablet machines which some PC makers planned. One was similar to Note PC, the other was “Pure” T
