Introduction:
Ischemia-reperfusioninjuryisacommoncomplicationofcardiovasculardiseasessuchasmyocardialinfarctionandstroke.Oneofthemechanismsunderlyingischemia-reperfusioninjuryisexcessiveapoptosisinaffectedcells.Sevofluraneisacommonlyusedanestheticagentincardiacsurgery,andhasbeenshowntohaveprotectiveeffectsinischemia-reperfusioninjury.However,theeffectsofpost-treatmentwithsevofluraneoncardiomyocyteapoptosisinaratmodelofmyocardialischemia-reperfusioninjuryhavenotbeenfullyelucidated.
Objectives:
Theaimofthisstudyistoinvestigatetheeffectsofpost-treatmentwithsevofluraneoncardiomyocyteapoptosisinaratmodelofmyocardialischemia-reperfusioninjury.
Methods:
MaleSprague-Dawleyratswillberandomlydividedintofourgroups:Sham(n=8),Control(n=8),Sevo1h(n=8),andSevo2h(n=8).TheratsintheControlgroupwillundergomyocardialischemia-reperfusioninjurywithoutanytreatment,whiletheratsintheSevo1handSevo2hgroupswillreceivetreatmentwith2%sevofluranefor1and2hours,respectively,aftertheischemia-reperfusioninjury.Theheartsoftheratswillbeharvestedafter24hoursofreperfusion,andmyocardialinfarctsizeandcardiomyocyteapoptosisratewillbeassessedusinghistologicalandbiochemicalmethods.
ExpectedResults:
Itishypothesizedthatpost-treatmentwithsevofluranewillattenuatemyocardialinfarctsizeandcardiomyocyteapoptosisintheratmodelofmyocardialischemia-reperfusioninjury.TheSevo2hgroupisexpectedtohavebetteroutcomesthantheSevo1hgroupandtheControlgroup.
Conclusion:
Thisstudymayprovideevidencefortheuseofpost-treatmentwithsevofluraneasatherapeuticstrategytoreducecardiomyocyteapoptosisandimproveoutcomesinpatientswithmyocardialische
