Chinese Science Bulletin2006 Vo1.51 No.3 369--373 D0I:10.1OO7,s11434-OO6—0369-0 A new improved structure of dye.sensitized solar ,lls with ce●- reflection film LIU Yong,SHEN Hui,HUANG Xiaorui DENGYoujun State Key Lab of Optoelectronic Materials and Technologies,School of Physics and Engineering,Sun Yat—sen University,Guan gzhou 5 10275, China Corespondence should be addressed to Shen Hui(email:shenhui1956@ 163.corn) Abstract A new improved structure of dye—sensi— tized nanocrystaline solar cels fDSSC)for utilizing reflected Iight was introduced in this paper.TypicaI DSSC is based on a sandwich structure.which con— sists of photoanode,electrolyte and cathode.For the improved structure of DSSC in this paper.a sliver reflection film was attached to the back of transparent conducting glass of cathode.In this wa the residuaI light passing through photoanode was reflected to it to be used again.The photocurrent—voltage charac— teristics of DSSC fabricated by two diferent thickness Of TiO2 f?m were measured to iIlustrate the efects of utilizing reflected light.As a result.the improved DSSC with reflection film exhibited higher photocur— rent and solar-to—electric conversion eficiency than DSSC without reflection俐m. Typical DSSC is based on a san dwich structure. which consists of two glass plates with a tran sparent conducting oxide(Tco)coating as substrate.One side. the photoelectrode,is coated with a nan ocrystalline TiO2 layer,which is sensitized for visible light by an adsorbed dye.The other conducting glass is coated witl1 a catalyrtic amount of platinum and serves as counter electrode.Th e space between the two electrodes
