Title: Research on the Feedback Effect of TEM4 on English Teaching
Background:
TEM4 is a widely recognized English proficiency test for non-English majors in China. It tests students listening, reading, writing, and translation abilities, and plays an important role in evaluating their English language proficiency. However, as an externally imposed test, it may also have feedback effects on English teaching, which need to be explored.
Research question:
What are the feedback effects of TEM4 on English teaching in China?
Objectives:
1. To investigate the perceptions of English teachers on the influence of TEM4 on their teaching.
2.To identify the changes in English teaching practices and strategies brought about by TEM4.
3. To examine the impact of TEM4 on students learning motivation, attitudes, and behaviors towards English learning.
Methodology:
This study will use a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The sample will consist of 50 English teachers from universities in China who have taught TEM4 classes. The data will be collected through a survey and semi-structured interviews. The survey will contain closed and open-ended questions to gather demographic information, perceptions, and experiences of the participants regarding the impact of TEM4 on their teaching, and their views on students learning motivation, attitude, and behavior towards English learning. Meanwhile, the semi-structured interviews will provide deeper insights into the views and experiences of the participants related to the implementation of TEM4.
Expected outcomes:
This study will contribute to our understanding of the impact of TEM4 on English teaching in China, which has important implications for quality assurance and improvement of English teaching nationwide. The findings can also provide valuable insights for policy makers, curriculum designers, and language educators on how to optimize the design of TEM4 a
