Halloween is on October31st, the last day of the Celtic calendar. The Origin of Halloween Halloween dates back to over 2000 years ago. It was originally a holiday, honoring the dead. Halloween was known as All Hallows Eve. People believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. Since not all spirits were thought to be friendly, gifts and treats were left out to satisfied the evil spirits and ensure next years crops would be plentiful. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating. Trick or Treat Trick-or-treating, is for children on or around Halloween in which they proceed from house to house in costumes, asking for treats such as Candy with the question, Trick or treat? of If the homeowner did not give you a treat ,then children will play a trick on you. Jack-O-Lantern(南瓜灯) A Story Tradition Food Costume Halloween costumes are traditionally those of monsters such as ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils. Costumes are also based on themes other than traditional horror, such as those of characters from television shows, movies and other pop culture icons. FOODS Because the holiday comes in the wake of the annual apple harvest, candy apples (also known as toffee or taffy apples) are a common Halloween treat made by rolling whole apples in a sticky sugar syrup, and sometimes rolling them in nuts.
