Itis53yearslater.FordecadeseducatorsfoughthisideathatsignedlanguagesarenaturallanguageslikeEnglish,FrenchandJapanese.Theyassumed(假想)languagemustbebasedonspeech,themodulation(调节)ofsound.Butsignlanguageisbasedonthemovementofhands,themodulationofspace.“WhatIsaid”,Stokoeexplains,“isthatlanguageisnotrelatedtomouthbutbrain.”
