Abstract
As the world is shrinking into a world village, more and more people nowadays have chances to come to contact with each other. In general, two different consequences appear as the result of the intercultural communication. On the one hand, there are lots of benefits such as improving personality growth, broadening the mind, and increasing the cultural sensitivity of the cross-cultural travelers; on the other hand, these travelers can have the feeling of anxiety, confusion, disorientation, and even hostility because of misunderstanding of each other, which is caused by a number of reasons. Key words: culture; culture shock; phenomenon
