Writing Lesson 1Introduction Introduction to writing W R I T E Decide who the letter is for and therefore its language formality or register Decide the type of language you are going to use--formal or informal language. In some situations it is appropriate to use more formal language, whereas in others, informal language is more suitable. Decide on a reasonable number of paragraphs and arrange the ideas into them with one clear topic per paragraph. Brainstorm the aspects that will be included in your article. Text Types like poetry, drama, recount, explanation and discussion.. etc.. Decide the organization of the article according to the text type. Edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation… etc. Introduction of a paragraph What is a paragraph? A paragraph is a group of sentences developing one main idea. Usually this main idea is stated in the first sentence, called the topic sentence. This topic sentence gives the focus the paragraph will have. The rest of the sentences support or develop the main idea. Often the last sentence acts as a conclusion, summarizing, reinforcing, or emphasizing the main idea.
