1. Introduction Translation can be understood in different ways. Originally, it was viewed as the replacement of one language by another; today, there’re increasing scholars who regard translation as the interaction between different cultures. In terms of translation strategies, literal translation and liberal translation are the two methods in the language layer while domestication and foreignization can be seen as the different choices of translation in the layer of culture. Since idioms usually go against the rule of logic and grammar, non-native speakers are always confronted with great difficulties. In the translation of idioms which have fixed linguistic forms and profound culture background, it is superficial to just focus on the replacement of the textual material. Therefore, much attention should be paid to the transmitting of cultural information and the specific features of idioms should be taken into consideration when adopting translation methods. 2. Literature Review The study of translation strategies is as early as the study of translation. In the previous study, different scholars hold different views towards domestication and foreignization. 2.1 Foreign Studies of Domestication and Foreignization Lawrence Venuti is the major representative of foreignization. In his book The Translator’s Invisibility, he claims, “The ultimate aim of this book is to force translators and their readers to write and read translated text in ways that seek to recognize the linguistic and cultural difference of foreign text.” (Venuti, 1995:20)[1]. He advocates foreignizing translation in order to “develop a theory and practice of translation that resists dominant target-language cultural values so as to signify the linguistic and cultural difference of the foreign text.” (Venuti, 1995:23)[1]. He argues that the domestication is cultural narcissism and imperialism, and the aim of foreignization is to resist against the ethnocentrism and racism. Thus he advanced the
