Determination of the content of Emodin in Shouwu Pills by HPLC

Abstract: Purpose To establish a HPLC method for the determination of Shouwu Pills. Methods After
using the orthogonal test to optimize extracting conditions, Emodinwas separated on UltimateXB-C ( 5 Lm, 250

mm @ 4. 6 mm) column and detected at 254 nm, with methanol-0. 1% phosphoric acid solution( 87B13) as a
mobile phase. Results There was good linearity from 1. 89-60. 37 Lg, r 0. 999 8, in separation of Emodin.
The average recovery of free emodin and total emodin separately was 100. 16% with RSD of 0. 91% and
99. 87% with RSD 1. 50% . Conclusion This method is accurate, simple and rapid. This study provides the
reference to establish the quality standard for Shouwu Pills.
