Guan Yu was a general during the three kingdoms period of China in the late Han dynasty. He is known as the Saint of War. In Chinese we call him “武圣”. Guan Yu was one of the top generals in the Shu kingdom. All Chinese people know about him and some even believe he is a deity. My grandfather told me this story when I was young, this is a famous story about a legendary general in which he single handedly escorted the wife of his master across 5 barricades and killed 6 generals along the way. This story made it’s mark in history and almost all Chinese people know about this story. I think it’s so extraordinary for a man to be so fierce and so brave. It’s really interesting because there are many movies and TV series that depict his act of courage.
