Abstract
Weexaminehowchangesinfiscaldeficitsaffectnear-termfutureinflationinapanelofemergingmarketanddevelopingeconomies(EMDEs).Usinganovelmethodforquantilepanelregressionswithfixedeffects,wefindthatanincreaseinthefiscaldeficithashighlynon-lineareffectsoninflation-thatis,alargerimpactonupsidetailrisksthanonaverageinflation.TheseeffectsaresubstantiallylargerinEMDEsthaninadvancedeconomies.Wethenshowthatanincreaseinthefiscaldeficitraisestheriskoffuturecurr
