Reading and vocabulary
I. Teaching Goals
Skill Goals:
1.Talk about some great artists and their styles
2.Practice describing famous artists and arts
3.practise reading skills------ scanning, skimming
Language goals:
enable students get familiar with new words and phrases:
Words: like, dislike, artist, artistic, colourful, delightful, paint, painter, painting, alive, , reality, stand, contemporary, traditional, realistic, extraordinary, outstanding, creative, successful.
Phrases: be fond of , be crazy about, can’t stand , be/get tired of,
Giving opinions about likes and dislikes
I think some western art is beautiful and interesting.
I like pictures that show reality.
I really like paintings of animals.
I can’t stand modern art. I think it’s awful.
I’m interested in pictures that are different in some way.
Emotion goals:
Let students learn to appreciate beautiful art and want to find the beauty of life.

Step 1 Lead-in
Let students appreciate some beautiful paintings.
Step II word presentation
Discuss and think about words to describe painters and their paintings. Allow them enough time to prepare.
Words: artistic, colourful, delightful, alive, , reality, stand, contemporary, traditional, style, realistic, extraordinary, outstanding, creative, successful.
Present these words and phrases on ppt, students read them one by one.
Eg: Qi Baishi is one of China’s _______ artists, whose________ paintings are in black inks and _______colors.
