Civilsocietyorganizationsincludeawholeplethoraofpressuregroups,non-governmental

organizations,charities,religiousgroupsandotheractorsthatareneitherbusinessnor

governmentorganizations,butwhichareinvolvedinthepromotionofcertaininterests,

causesand/orgoals.

AlthoughNGOstendtobethemostvisibleactorsintheliteraturedealingwithbusinessand

civilsociety,organizationssuchaslaborunions,consumerassociations,religiousgroups,

communitygroups,etc.arealsoimportantCSOs,yetaretypicallynotthoughtofasNGOs.

Essentially,thenweareusingthetermCSOtodescribeallofthesevoluntary,not-for-profit

bodiesoutsideofbusinessandgovernmentthatrepresentaparticulargrouporcausewhich

bringsthemintocontactwithcorporations.

Scope:Individual,Grass-roots,Local,Regional,National,Transnational,Global

Type:Communitygroup,Campaigngroup,Researchorganization,Businessassociation,

Religiousgroup,TradeUnion,Technicalbody

Activities:Academicresearch,Marketresearch,research,Informationprovision,

Focus:Naturalenvironment,Socialissues,Development,Povertyalleviation,s,

Structure:Informal,Formal,Co-operative,Professional,Entrepreneurial,Network

3.FeaturesofCSO

Indirect:Unlikeotherstakeholders,whocontributedirectlytothecorporation,CSOrarely

contributeanyresourcesdirectlytocorporations.

Representative:CSOrepresenttheinterestsofindividualstakeholdersortheinterestsof

non-humanstakeholders.
