Thefindingsshowthathigherlevelsofdailymovementwerelinkedtobetterthinkingandmemoryskills.AndwhenDr.Buchmananalyzedbraintissueunderamicroscope,thisfindingturnedouttobethecaseevenforindividualswithatleastthreesignsofAlzheimersdisease(阿尔茨海默病).EventhoughtheseindividualsmighthavebeendiagnosedwithAlzheimers,30percentofthemhadnormalcognition(认知),saysDr.Buchman.

Whyonepersonshowssignsofdementiaandanother,whohassimilardegenerative(退行的)changesinthebrain,doesnot,isamystery.ButDr.Buchmansaysthenewfindingssuggestthatphysicalactivitymaybeprotective,evenamongdevelopingAlzheimers.Itsortofmasksthesymptoms,hesays.ItsuggeststhatyoucanhavesomecontroloveryourbrainhealthevenifyoudonthavecontroloverdevelopingAlzheimers.
