AlonglongtimeagoinChina,therewasabig,scarybeastminionNian,whosenamemeanshere.Hehadsharpteeth,bigclaws.Mostofthetimehelivedintheforest.Butonthedarkestnightoftheyearwhenthenewmoonwasinthesky,hewouldcomeintothevillageandscareeveryoneandtheanimals.Peoplewasfrightenedthenewmoonformanymanyyears.Untilawisemantaughtthemthethreethings.Nianwasafraidofloudnoises,fireandthecolourred.ThenexttimeNiancame,thevillagersfoughtback,theyhitthedrumsoloud,andearthecolorredfromheadtotoe.Nianranawayandnevercameback.Afterthatpeoplestartedcelebratingtheunioninsteadoffearingit.Thatcelebrationbecame15daysfestivaloffamilyfoodandgoodfortunecalledChineseNewYear.

DragonBoatFestival

Longtimeago,therewasagreatpoetcalledQuYuan.Hedidn’tbearthewhenhiscountrywasinvaded，sohedrownedhimselfintheriver.Localpeoplerodeboatstosavehimanddropthericeballsintotheriver,becausetheywantedtoprotecthisbody.LaterpeoplerowedandmadeZoneziontheDragonBoatFestivalforrememberinghim.That’howthetraditionofdragonboatracingandeatingZongziwerestarted.AnationtraditiononDuanwujieistoputwormwoodonthefrontdoortorepelbadthings.Insomeplacespeopledrinkwineandchildrenwearsachet。NowthefamilygetstogetheronDuanwujie.Peoplehaveallkindsoftingstocelebratethistraditionalfestival.

Onceuponatime,therewasabeautifulwomancalledChang’e.HerhusbandHouYiwasagreatarcher.Atthattime,therewastensunintheskyandthepeopleonearthwerelivingintheheat.Tosavetheearth,HouYiusedhisbowandarrowtoshootdownthenineofthesuns.HouYiwasrespectedasanationalheroandgotsomemedicineofimmortality（长生）asareward（奖励）
