Asthehumanpopulationdoubledinthelasthalfcentury,wildlifepopulationsdeclinedby70percent.Surgesinthehumanpopulationwouldputincreasingpressureondwindlingnaturalresourcesandtheintricatewebofanimals,birdsandplantsthatdependonthem.

Mr.Knightsaysthatdespiteourmanyachievements,humansareanetdetrimenttotheEarth.Hisbeliefswererootedindeepecology,whichchallengesassumptionsofhumandominanceandarguesthatotherspeciesarejustassignificant.
