I really want to give my sincere thanks to those who had helped me in various aspects during this period. First, I would like to show my genuine gratitude to my supervisor, Huang Huihui, who has generously given me so much of her time and patience to go through the whole paper and has provided me with great support and warm encouragement. I can never forget her great efforts for helping me improving my paper, and all of her constructive suggestions, sentence-to-sentence checking, and other professional instruction. But for her careful supervision, I could not have completed this thesis.
I should also be thankful to those scholars who have done a lot of detailed research on the female images in the book The Joy Luck Club, and they have offered me so much inspiration. Moreover, I should also attribute my particular thanks to my roommates Yu Xue, Zhao Dan and Zhao Huange who gave me their suggestions and ideas to help me with my work.
At last, my gratitude would go to my beloved parents for their forever consideration and attentiveness. What’s more important is that they had given me too much support and understanding throughout those four years. I also want to show my sincere appreciation to my friends who had accompanied me during those days of writing my paper.
