Simply stated, it is the etiquette in business activities. And “etiquette” means “the forms required by good breeding or prescribed by authority to be required in social or official life.” In other words, business etiquette is a set of rules for behaving properly in business activities. Greeting Greeting is the first step in business communication. The usual formal greeting is a How do you do? and a firm handshake, but with a lighter touch between men and women. Traditionally, a man is introduced to a woman (saying the women’s name first); a young person is introduced to an older person (saying the guest’s name first). Introduce a peer in your own company to peer in another company, a lower-ranking person to higher-ranking person, and a person in your company to a customer or client. Be careful about using new acquaintance’s first names, especially if they are older than you or in higher positions. Business card Business card is a very important tool in business communication. It is usually considered as the advertisement of the company or the individual. Business cards are frequently used during sales visits to provide potential customers with a means to contact the business or representative of the business. When giving a person your business card, you must give it with your right hand or both hands. Always keep your business card clean and prestigious. Receive the card as you give yours either with your right hand or both. Study the card so you can remember the person that gave it to you.
