The intermediate 3,5-dichloro-2,4- difluoroaniline was synthesized by chlorination and reduction of 2,4-difluoronitrobenzene. An acylation reaction of 2, 6-difluorobenzamide and bis(trichloro- methyl)carbonate produced a second intermediate, 2,6-difluorobenzoly isocyanate. By reacting 3,5-dichloro-2,4-difluoroaniline with 2,6-difluorobenzoly isocyanate, teflubenzuron was syn- thesized with a total yield of 79.3%. This process offers the advantages of ready availability of reactants, low isomer production, and few reaction steps.
