The IC career path for engineers does not stop at Partner SDET, but the test career path does . Partner SDET is one level below Distinguished Engineer (Corporate VP level IC). This is not because Microsoft does not see a need for a Distinguished Engineer(DE) in the test discipline . It is our belief that as engineers progress further and further along their career paths they start to look and behave more similarly to each other and the discipline distinction becomes less valuable .
