Discussion: Linguistics is “ rich men’s game”? It is the game of everybody: We use language every day. We live in a world of words. Nobody can live in a world of silence. Hardly any moment passes without someone talking, writing, or reading. Language is most essential to mankind. However , linguistics is not very familiar to many people 1.1.1 Definition of Linguistics: What is it? Linguistics : the scientific or systematic study of language. The subject matter of linguistics is all natural languages, living or dead. Linguistics , a pilot science, tries to answer the basic questions: What is language?
