Abstract: The vibration loads and the failuremodes of pitch bearingwere analyzed. Itwas pointed out that in the action
of alternating loads and vibration loads on w ind turbine pitch bearings, itsm ain failure modew as the dam age due to the
frettingw ear that occurs between rolling elem ent and race. Them echan ism of frettingwearwas analyzed through the fretting
tests, which also can explain the relationship betw een lubrication effects and the number of frettingmovem ent, and the dis
p lacem ent of frettingmovem ent. In order to reduce fretting w ear in the p itch bearings, the specific protectivem easures
against fretting wearw ere proposed in lubrication andm ach inery. The results show that the effects of frettingw earweaken
as load decreases, contact angle increases and hardness ofm aterial increases; the fretting wear in the pitch bearing can be
reduced by the use of synthetic grease that has high penetration capability and contains antiw ear add itives and anticorro
sion agent, reducing the vibration ofb lades, mi proving the structure of pitch bearing and increasing the intensity of the sur
face of ring, etc.
