Revenue 2001 0.16% 2000 1.25% Marketing and RD Minimal Change 1% of Net Operational Profit for RD (For most SME) Entrepreneurship 1 Year in Business 2002 SME 91,435 SME Knowledge-based Economy Indicators and Statistical Data Sources (See Chart) Existing Problems: There is no data available to simultaneously indicate that an enterprise is regarded as an SME, both on the basis of the number of employees and the amount of paid-in capital or revenue. Data from different sources should not be used together. Some of the data provided does not cover the entire business community . Issue of inconsistent business classification criteria. Improvements in the future The frequency of the updating of statistical data on SME should be increased. A ‘number of employees’ column should be added to the VAT declaration form. Statistical data on the marketing and RD of SME should be reinforced. A ‘gender’ column should be added to VAT data to support studies on issues relating to women in the workforce. Conclusion By providing extensive detailed statistical data we would like to portray a clearer picture of SME in Chinese Taipei, thus to provide an appropriate reference for the international communi
