Text Reading: p. 26 Donne’s sonnet “Death Be Not Proud” * A 结构美 起 3 quatrain 承 转 1 couplet 合 So...... So...... The 1st quatrain This quatrain is very complimentary to the young mans beauty and shows Shakespeares deep admiration and love for the young man. The 2nd quatrain In this quatrain, the speaker states that the sun in summer is either too hot or overcast by clouds, but the youth is still temperate and his beauty will never be overcast. The 3rd quatrain The 3rd quatrain of the sonnet shows that the youth is different from the summer. His beauty will last for ever and never die. Shakespeare continues to explain his promise to the youth and he is going to save the youth from the fate of fading away. The couplet In the couplet, the speaker uses a parallel structure to state that as long as human lives, his poetry will survive, and, in turn, the youths beauty will live on forever in the poem.
