The federal government possesses only those powers clearly delineated in the Constitution; all remaining powers are reserved for the states. Federal Republic The states providing law and order,education,public health, etc, day-to-day life things. The Federal Government at Washington Foreign affairs, general concern to all the states including commerce between the states. Extending activites in the field of social sercices, education,research of many kinds, and the ordinary productive processes. Federal Republic The Federal government with its Congress-the President-judicial State and Union with its legislature two houses-the governor-judges of the StateSupreme Court City government with its council –elected mayor-judges, reproduce the state pattern on a smaller scale. Of the people, by the people, and for the people The U.S. government, as outlined by the Constitution, is divided into three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. The legislative branch passes the laws, the executive enforces the laws and the judicial interprets the laws. The legislative branch is comprised of the two houses of Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives. The executive branch is represented by the president, who is called the chief executive or chief of state, also as commander in chief of the armed forces. The judicial branch is made up of the Supreme Court and about 100 other federal courts. The nine Supreme Court justices hold office for life. Legislative Branch The legislative branch is made up of elected representatives from all of the states and is the only branch that can make federal laws, levy fedral taxes, declare war or put foreign treaties into effect.
