Private kindergartens have always been playing a dominate role
in the construction and development of kindergartens in China,
with the proportion in China’s total number of kindergartens
soaring to 64.6% in 2009 from 55.3% in 2005, far higher than
that of governmental and collectively-invested ones in the same
period.
By region, kindergarten construction in first-tier cities like Beijing
and Shanghai performs better. In 2010, there were a total of
1,245 kindergartens in Beijing with the enrollment approximating
105,000. Meanwhile, Beijing is projected to lavish RMB1.5
billion in the upcoming three years to build 118 state-run
kindergartens, and to invest RMB5 billion in next five years for
kindergarten construction and expansion, with the respective
number of 300.
Abstract
As of 2009, China had 138,200 kindergartens, with a year-on
year increase of 3.37%, but the growth rate decreased by 2.14
percentage points compared to 2005. In terms of the age bracket
of enrollment, children aged three to five accounted for 57.9% of
the enrollment haul, followed by those above five with the
proportion of 33.2% of the total enrollment.
