Abstract: T he copo lym er o f styrene and m ale ic anhydride ( SMA ) w as g rafted w ith polyethy lene glyco l
m onom ethy l ethers ( M PEG ) to synthesize com b - like surfactan ,t SMA - g - MPEG w ith SMA as its m a in
ch ain. The effect of ca talyst dosage, m o lar ratio of m aleic anhydride and po lyethylene g lycol m onom ethy l
ethers, reaction tmi e on the gra ft ing y ield of the SMA - g- M PEG w as d iscussed. The resu lts show ed th at when
the cond ition s w ere controlled as: p - tolu ene sulfonic acid u sed as catalyst w ith dosage o f 4% , n ( M PEG )
n ( MA ) = 34, reaction t mi e 8 h, opt mi ized produ ct surfactant can be obta ined, and the yie ld achieves 365% .
