College of Food and Bioengineering, outh China U niversity of Technology, Guangzhou 510640) Abstract Biological fluidized bed ( BFB) w ill be greatly developed in w astew ater treatment. The biodegradation process depends upon the active biofilm. It is an important approach to study the biofilm char- acteristics to improve the biodegradable ability of BFB reactor. everal key parameters of the biofilm charac- teristics are review ed in this paper. The microbial community structure is the most important factor effecting the efficiency of BFB. T herefore, the relation betw een the microbial community distribution, ecological suc- cession and the BFB efficiency is specially discussed in this review. Besides, several measures have been put forward to enhance the biofilm characteristics of BFB reactor. Key words biological fluidized bed; biofilm characteristic; w astew ater treatment , , , ,
