Abstract The purpose of this report is to analyze and answer the questions of case study “Tesco – the rise and rise of a food retailer” (Farquhar, J.D and Meidan, A. 2010:381) based on class notes, library and internet research. In the report, the author will explain the key concepts, issues and models which the author has learned. The author of this report also will apply argue the points and supported by facts, evidence and examples to answer the questions. 2. Introduction Tesco is a very famous brand which is the largest retailer in the United Kingdom and it also is one of the largest retailers in the world. Even through you can find many Tesco supermarkets in the author’s home country which is China. Nowadays, Tesco Company not only has more and more supermarkets, but also Tesco has moved into banking. In the 2008, “Tesco set out its ambition to build a full-service retail bank after buying Royal Bank of Scotlands 50% stake in the Tesco Personal Finance (TPF) joint venture for £950m”(guardian.co.uk, 2008), then the Tesco company began its banking business officially. Services are bigger and faster-growing markets than food, said Tescos chief executive, Sir Terry Leahy. This report will be through the Tesco into banking to analysis the Tesco market strategies. In the author’s view, Tesco moving into banking is an opportunity as well as a challenge. 3. Methodology
