Now lets look at the new VNXe Series. The VNXe Series is a new offering that opens up incremental market opportunities for EMC, and is targeted at the SMB market, Commercial Geo customers, departments and remote-offices/branch-offices. Designed for IT generalists, the VNXe series delivers advanced functionality as well as a simple, application-driven approach to managing shared storage via Unisphere. The VNXe Series is a new architecture with integrated file (CIFS, NFS) and block (iSCSI) functionality, with a SAS back-end Infrastructure. It starts with a small 2U footprint and it can replicate to the VNX Series in the Data Center. Here are the hardware specifications: The VNXe Series consists of 2 models, ranging from a maximum of 96 to 120 drives, and scales in processing power and system memory. The VNXe integrated storage processors provide both file and iSCSI block access. The VNXe3100 is offered in a single or dual SP model. Drives supported are high performance SAS drives and high-capacity near-line SAS drives. Flash drives will be offered on the VNXe3300 later this year. The VNXe Series is managed by Unisphere and the base software includes file deduplication compression, and thin provisioning. As with the VNX Series, the optional software is ordered via attractively priced packages and suites. The Security and Compliance Suite protects data from unwanted changes, deletions, and viruses. It includes the event enabler for anti-virus, and file-level retention. The Local Protection Suite implements snapshots for point in time recovery, development, testing and backup. This software is bundled with the VNXe3100. The Remote Protection Suite lets customers protect data for D/R and backup at a remote site. It includes Replicator for iSCSI and NAS. The Application Protection Suite automates application consistent copies with Replication Manager.
