The Comparison of English and Chinese Proverbs Thesis: With different culture, English and Chinese proverbs have not only similarities, but also differences in their detailed contents,which reflect the relationship between language and culture, in turn, influenced . Moreover, English and Chinese proverbs will break the boundary and accomplish interfusion. Ⅰ. Introduction Proverbs are the crystal of the national wisdom and experience. Proverbs are colloquial, so they are very easy to be remembered and handed down. Proverbs are the cream of a language. Language and culture are tightly interacted with each other; each influencing and shaping the other. Ⅱ. The similarities between English and Chinese proverbs mainly lie in their numbers, origins and linguistic characters. A. They have immense numbers. English and Chinese proverbs are far from rare in all conceivable situations—whether they be human-nature situations, or human-human relations. B. They have similar origins. Proverbs are the summing up of the experience in the production struggle, the social life and the crystal of wisdom. Weather English proverbs or Chinese proverbs tell us that “Proverbs are the daughter of experience”. We can find that English and Chinese proverbs enjoy the similar origins. They originate from people’s daily life and experience. Specifically speaking, they come from folk life, mythology, literary works and other languages. 1. They originate from folk life. Proverbs are the summary of people’s daily life and experience, revealing a universal truth from details so as to enlighten people. There are many proverbs originated from folk life. They are created by working people, such as farmers, workmen, hunters, businessmen and army-men. Farmers created the following proverbs: Make hay while the sun shines. April rainy for corn, May for grass. 春天不忙,秋后无粮。 Workmen created the following proverbs: Tike while the iron is hot. Good anvil does not fear the hammer. 匠怕漆匠,漆匠怕光亮。 Hunters created the fo
