How to Improve the Students’ Listening Level
1. Introduction
As we know, English is a recognized world language, is becoming more and more important in China. Most of the students are enthusiastic about learning English. I am now teaching the junior Grade Two students who were taught by another teacher last year. In my teaching I found that a number of students did not like English, especially in English listening. Each time, when a conversation or a passage is over, they almost know nothing and are totally at a loss what to do about the exercises they are required to do. They thought it was a boring and monotonous task. They were taking a less active role in English learning, a few students even dropped out. How can motivate their interest in English learning, improve the students’ listening level, improve their learning efficiency and result? Based on some approaches that I had learned from “English Language Teaching Methodology”, and considering the characteristics of my students, I decided to motivate the students’ interest in English learning and foster their listening comprehension technique and good habits of listening to improve their English listening level.
Stage 1. June, 1st ~June, 5th to dentify a problem
Stage 2. June, 6th ~June, 19th to analyze the problem using scientific methods of investigation
Stage 3. June, 20th ~June, 2nd to design a problem-solving project
Stage 4. August, 3rd ~August, 23rd to implement the project.
Stage 5. August, 24th ~August, 28th to evaluate the project
Stage 6. August, 29th ~August, 31th to write the project report.
2. Problems Analysis
Teaching which appeals to learners’ need can facilitate learning. It is necessary to investigate why the students feel listening is so difficult and they are taking a less active role in English learning. So interviews were held and questionnaires were issued. It is found that:
